Planned Giving & Bequests

Leave a Legacy to Help the Animals

Thanks to generous support from animal lovers like you, Second Chance Pet Adoptions has been able to rescue, nurture, and adopt close to 6,000 dogs and cats since 1989.

As the cost to rescue and rehabilitate animals continues to increase, we appreciate the animal lovers that have supported Second Chance through charitable giving bequests, which help us continue our life saving work.

With a Planned Gift, you will provide a lasting legacy for the stray or abandoned dogs and cats of the Triangle area.

What is a "Planned Gift"?

Planned Gifts can take many forms, depending on your estate goals.

You can make a more significant gift to Second Chance than you ever thought possible, while maximizing the financial and tax benefits to you, your estate, and your family. A planned gift continues your loving legacy for the animals and helps Second Chance continue its lifesaving mission.

Gifts through Your Will or Living Trust

A gift to Second Chance Pet Adoptions through your will or living trust is a powerful statement of your support for our mission to rescue the Triangle area’s stray or abandoned dogs and cats.

Below you will find sample language that you can share with your Attorney or Estate Planner. Simply include this language in your estate document and you can be assured that you played a major role in the rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption of needy animals.

I give to 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions, Inc., Federal I.D. No. 56-1671883, PO Box 73, Cary, NC, 27512, (the sum of $______) (all or ___ % of the residue of my estate/trust), to be used for its general purposes.

Gifts through Retirement Plan Beneficiary Designations

Naming Second Chance Pet Adoptions as the beneficiary of all or a portion of your retirement plan is a simple and smart way to help our needy animals. Retirement plan assets are among the best assets to use for charitable gifts. You can create a legacy by naming Second Chance Pet Adoptions as beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of an IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Keogh account, or other qualified retirement plan. Upon your death, all, or a portion of the unused balance in your account, is transferred to Second Chance.

When a retirement account is left to a charity, the organization does not pay the income tax (or, if applicable, estate taxes) that might otherwise be due if left to an individual beneficiary. Making a gift requires merely completing a change of beneficiary form, which may be obtained from the plan administrator. Here is the information you need to name Second Chance as your beneficiary:

2nd Chance Pet Adoptions, Inc.
PO Box 73
Cary, NC 27512
Tax ID #56-1671883

Gifts through Life Insurance Plans

You can use your life insurance plan to fulfill your charitable goals and the needs of dogs and cats at Second Chance Pet Adoptions. By making a gift through life insurance, you may be able to make a larger gift than you thought possible, while retaining other assets for your needs or those of your family.

Create a legacy for the animals by naming Second Chance as a beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of your policy. Simply complete a Change of Beneficiary Form with your insurance company. To include Second Chance as a beneficiary of a life insurance plan, use the following information when filling out the beneficiary designation form:

2nd Chance Pet Adoptions, Inc.
PO Box 73
Cary, NC 27512
Tax ID #56-1671883

Transfer on Death Accounts

You can support the animals by naming Second Chance the beneficiary of a "transfer on death" bank or stock account. In almost all states, it is possible to own a bank or brokerage account in your name with the provision that on your death it will be transferred to Second Chance. These are often called “transfer on death” or “pay on death” accounts or Totten trusts.

If you choose to make Second Chance the beneficiary of a TOD account, you have complete control over the accounts during your lifetime. Here is the information you will need to establish a transfer on death account with your bank or broker:

PO Box 73
Cary, NC 27512
Tax ID #56-1671883
